How do you calculate speaker power needed?

Find the dB gain needed above speaker sensitivity after distance loss, speaker count gain, and room gain. Then convert that dB gain to watts using 10 raised to the gain divided by 10.

How much power is needed for 3 dB more SPL?

About twice the amplifier power is needed for a 3 dB increase, assuming the speaker can handle it without compression or distortion.

How much power is needed for 10 dB more SPL?

About ten times the amplifier power is needed for a 10 dB increase.

Does more amplifier power always mean louder sound?

Not always. Speaker sensitivity, distance, room acoustics, speaker limits, amplifier clipping, and power compression all affect real loudness.
